Artist/Band: griff
Name: Gareth Burnell
Album title? Unstuck in Time
Where did the title of your new album come from? It's a phrase used to describe the main character from the novel Slaughterhouse 5 by Kurt Vonnegut. Favourite book/author of mine.
How many releases do you have now? 4 EPs, 2 LPs and a bunch of remixes & one-offs for compilations.
How long did it take to write/record? I think about 10 months. I pretty much started writing this one as soon as I'd finished the last one (Interstate - May 2014).
Was anything in particular inspiring you during the making? Just thinking about how lucky I am to be alive in these times and in this country and frustration that our systems are geared towards making this kind of luck rare. Let's explore space!
What's your favourite song on it? Ghosty, ft. Dersu Uzala. Always enjoy writing tunes with my brother! Deep Field also, and really dig Bled Dry too.
Will you do anything differently next time? Of course! Why do things the same? Much more live-instrument recording and more vocal tracks on the next one I think.
When and where is your launch/next gig? Wide Open Space, outside Alice Springs, on the first weekend in May. Launch party with me, Spoonbill and Mad Zach on the 9th of May, Railway Hotel in Brunswick.
