Five minutes with Founder and Director of Gallery Burlesque, Onur Karaozbek.
Name and Role: Onur Karaozbek – Founder and Director of Gallery Burlesque.
Plug your show! We are the collective that brings the heat and tease to the Fringe every year; the best of burlesque on stage can only be seen at Gallery Burlesque with performers like the world reigning queen of burlesque Imogen Kelly, Mr Boylesque Australia 2012 Raven, Sydney's classic Queen Danica Lee, the brilliant Sheena Miss Demeanour and Kelly Ann, the charming Defy and many many more!
Where did the idea for your show come from, how has it evolved? We have slowed down on our variety nights since we started producing shows like the sold out Tim Burton Tribute and Harry Potter Parody shows, but there is always a place for gathering great performers with a little twist for the pleasure of the audience… Gallery Burlesque has two fabulous events this September and there is really something for everyone this coming Fringe season! First up is the much loved Doppelganger Dames, a night filled with Sydney's finest neo burlesque performers with their take on your favourite celebrity! Then of course the much talked about Oh Boy Oh Boy is back with a vengeance and the male talent just keeps on growing! All new acts to sizzle your eye sockets.
What have the past few months or so been like in the lead-up to Fringe? Like stepping on pink clouds with tassels…
What inspires you artistically? Peer pressure and drinking sessions.
What the most cringe-worthy thing you've seen on stage? Nickelback.
What excites you about being involved in the Sydney Fringe 2012? Fringe is Fringe and you got to be in it!
WHEN & WHERE: Doppelganger Dames – Sunday 9 September; Oh Boy Oh Boy – Sunday 16, Gallery Burlesque
