New Music: JOY. - Weather
JOY. continues to rain down a hellfire of killer music in 2015.. If you look at a list of artists we talked about a heap in 2014, after our own Pilerats Records artists one of the next inline would definitely be Brisbane producer Olivia McCarthy, better known to most of you as JOY. How much did we rabble on about her? This is how much: Stone Young Franco - Close 2 U (feat. JOY) Captured Captured (Pilerats Live Recording) Stone (Zuri Akuko Remix) It's all leading up to the 2015 release of her new EP (pre-order from iTUNES), and Weather is another cut from it. We're pretty sure McCarthy isn't even allowed to legally drink yet, but as you can see in all the above examples and again on Weathered, she's got production chops that put even some of the big wigs to shame, with the added bonus of a silky smooth voice that'll melt your heart/mind/ear holes. The Stone EP is due out the end of this week and she's headed on tour next month with the lads from Flamingo, so check the dates HERE and mar

Premiere: JOY - Stone (Zuri Akoko Remix)
Two of Australia's bright young things make for some sweet, sweet sounds.. Brisbane producer JOY has had a bloody bonza 2014, releasing some killer original tunes, absolutely slaying Peking Duk's Like A Version, recording THIS beautiful live recording, and just this week being named as part of inthemix's 21 Locals set to own 2015. We've been all about her since we first came across her, so when the opportunity came up to premiere this dope remix of Stone from another emerging producer in Zuri Akoko we of course jumped at the chance. Akoko's productions combine a dreamy blend of atmospheric pads and vocals, often taking turns into glitchy trip hop and downtempo, experimental beats. For proof check out her own original tune We Can from earlier this year, and of course this excellent re-do of Stone. The production is gentle, yet punchy, with a breakdown that effortlessly pulls the rug out from under your feet, and already has us digging through Akoko's back catalogue for more gold. It's e

Video: Youngs - JOY
Youngs have just released their video for their debut single, JOY.. Youngs debut single JOY acts as an example of artists influenced in the post-Flume era because of that backing percussion instrument that is present throughout. But luckily it isn't a piece of derivative drivel but an attempt to forge their own sound. JOY appears as a gradually layered slice of chilled-out electronica that ebbs and flows with the vocals of Youngs. The track itself comes with a nifty little animated video clip, check it out below: Follow Youngs: FACEBOOK

JOY. - Stone
Where there was raw talent, JOY. has now brought her airy vocals and sharp production to the fore with her new single.. Whereas Captured was raw talent channelled into a song (watch a beautiful live recording of it HERE), JOY's Stone appears as a highly refined, late night slow-jam that you can keep playing over and over to appreciate. With all it's undulations and bumps it is not unlike that which is named after - a stone. Stone starts out with an intro that slides soeffortlessly due to Olivia McCarthy's voice floating airly over the soft piano keys. Then to mix things up a saxphone rolls on in, which I've always found to be a questionable instrument but it works damn well here. Indeed as it all breaks down, the reverb-heavy vocals of McCarthy are padded out oh so well against the thumping bass line. But the final minute really brings it together with the increasingly ethearal vocals mixing in with a far more bold saxophone that gives Stone the energy in an otherwise similar tempo son

Young Franco - Close 2 U EP
The biologically not-recognised third Franco has a couple of killer free tunes for you.. Brisbane boy wonder Young Franco has just calmly dropped some fresh tunes on the world in the form of the Close 2 U EP, a two-tracker featuring the titular tune (plus vocals from Joy), along with Hurricane. The former is a classic slice of piano house, featuring the soothing vocals of fellow Brisbane babe Joy, while the latter starts out pretty chill before slamming down some super-bass vibes. Both are killer, and you can stream 'em below, or even better, download them for free! Young Franco is playing about 24 sets over the course of Splendour In The Grass, so make sure you catch him 'cause he knows how to get you the funk down. Young Franco FACEBOOK // SOUNDCLOUD
