Spotify's HiFi tier will reportedly cost “at least $5 more per month”.

The President and CEO of the Digital Media Association (DiMA) has claimed that new changes in Canada's Online Streaming Act are a "discriminatory tax on music streaming services".

"It actually can still be expensive to make records, especially if you care about paying your collaborators fairly."

A spokesperson for Spotify called the cease and desist letter a "press stunt".

"Spotify is the cage egg of streaming platforms. It's unethical to continue to give them money."

Adding audiobooks into so-called “bundles”, Spotify are claiming they qualify for a US mechanical royalty rate discount.

Local artists generated nearly $275 million in royalties throughout 2023.

It comes as Spotify aims to replace TikTok as the place to discover new music and other content.

The beta is currently available for Premium subscribers in Australia.
