Listen: Sufjan Stevens Album Stream
Stream Sufjan Stevens' new album Carrie & Lowell.. Sufjan Stevens hasn't actually had a non-Christmas themed album since 2010's The Age of Adz, so this month's Carrie & Lowell is actually a fairly big deal. Even more so given that, as we previously commented on, Sufjan is returning to his folk roots with Carrie and Lowell, after a period of more avant-garde, electronic experimentation. And folky it is: Sufjan whisper-sings his way through eleven tracks, with a voice so tender it sounds like he's about to burst into tears at any minute. I'm not a folk fan by any stretch of the imagination, but this stripped-down stuff is making me want to look out from behind a rainy window longingly. No doubt many an indie-drama auteur is going to be queing up to get the rights to use these songs in their next film.  Stream it over at the site of album premiere kings NPR. It's out on March 31 through Asthmatic Kitty Records. You can also watch the album's official trailer, below:

New: Szymon - Katyusha
A convincing debut of gentle electronic folk from sadly departed Sydney talent.. Instrumental track Katyusha is the first song from 23-year-old Sydney music producer Szymon Borzestowski's debut release, Tigersapp, an album that was performed, recorded and produced entirely in Borzestowsk’s bedroom. It's a modest but convincing debut of gentle but triumphant electronic folk, with a sweetly swelling, softly muffled trumpet chorus that calls to mind Beirut’s brassy leanings. Listen here:  This uplifting track carries with it a sad story. Two years ago, the track's creator took his own life, after a long-running struggle with depression. The talented Borzestowski had been working on putting an album together - he had a small development deal and the bulk of the album completed before his mental illness quelled the project. After his death, his family got in touch with Mark Holland and Craig Hawker, who’d expressed interest in an early demo they’d heard from Borzestowski a few years back when

Fieldings - Wild Release Vol II EP
Lucinda Hearn AKA Fieldings brings some beautiful soundscapes to your headphones.. Sydney producer/songwriter Lucinda Hearn AKA Fieldings has been releasing experimental folk-pop sounds for the past six months, culminating in a recent appearance at BigSOUND in Brisbane a few weeks ago. It's beautiful, delicate stuff, that provides a good opportunity to tune out for a few minutes, or in the case of this free EP, a little longer. The little sound bytes that come in on a couple of the tracks are awesome - I'm a sucker for that kinda thing. She's playing with Setec on October 10 at Projects in Redfern, if you wanna catch her in live form. Follow Fieldings: FACEBOOK // SOUNDCLOUD
