New Music: O.T. Genasis - ‘Coco’ (Dark0 remix) + New Video
Dark0 stretches out O.T. Genasis' street anthem, which also scores a racy new vid.. 2014 was a good year for hip hop newcomers making it big on the power of one hit track: joining Bobby Shmurda, Rae Sremmurd and Dej Loaf in this respect was Long Beach rapper O.T. Genasis, a protégée of Busta Rhymes, who basically rose to prominence overnight with his street anthem CoCo, an over-the-top tribute to dealing cocaine.  There’s been two awesome pieces of news on the CoCo front this week: an incredible remake of the video clip with a heap of rap celebrity cameos, and a remix from one of our favourite new grime producers Dark0.  While the first CoCo video took place primarily in a kitchen, and wasn’t even in high definition, CoCo’s upgraded things considerably: the re-make is set in a mansion and in the streets of South Beach, and there’s yachts and Lamborghinis! The multiple Grammy award-winner proved her ability to remain fresh and vital, capitalising on the love hip listeners had for her F For You Disclosure remix (watch them do a banging live rendition of it on Jimmy Kimmel below) by hopping across the pond to the UK, and jumping in the studio with Disclosure and Sam Smith for The London Sessions (watch a video of them in studio below). Set to see a release next week, the album ranges from glitchy soul tunes to full-on dance tracks. Mary J's not the first female R & B singer of that ilk to team up with breakout younger artists in a bid to stay relevant: Mariah Carey’s recent collab with rapper Rich Homie Quan, Thirsty, springs to mind. Anyway, Mary J and her Disclosure baes have dropped another cut from the album: a retro-
