The first taste of the Scotman's forthcoming third album..
Rustie left the crowd waiting for the good stuff at Howler.
Rustie looks back on a huge 2014, and forwards to Laneway 2015.. Russell Whyte, probably better known to most future-bass music fiends as Glaswegian-based producer Rustie, successfully managed to follow up his break-out 2012 album Glass Swords with last year's Green Language. An album that shows the kind of cohesiveness and maturity many artist's can struggle with the dreaded second album. One of the world's most-hyped producers, and at the forefront of dance music's obssession with the future-beat sound popularised by the likes of our own Flume, he's continually pushing boundaries, and we're looking forward to much the same when he plays the Red Bull Music Academy x Future Classic Stage at St Jerome's Laneway Festival, along with a couple of sideshows (dates down the bottom): First up congrats on what seemed like a pretty great 2014, especially with Green Language – were there any major lessons from the release of Glass Swords you were able to carry into Green Language’s release? Scottish producer Rustie warps P.C. Music boss A.G. Cook’s Beautiful.. Released as a part of the LuckyMe advent calendar Rustie's edit of Beautiful by PC Music's A.G. Cook sees him adding a futuristic 'warp-trap' twist. Beautiful is one of the biggest P.C Music releases to date (past releases include Hannah Diamond, GFOTY & more) with light synth and high-pitched, bubbly vocals captivating (and also slightly weirding out) people around the globe. Rustie’s edit builds on this and adds a banger-alert worthy drop, packed full of his signature warps and trap-like bassline. Best of all, thanks to the kind folks at LuckyMe, it’s available in all its glory for free. Follow PC Music: FACEBOOK Follow Rustie: FACEBOOK
Plantlife, light-beams and topless women. Nailed it, Rustie.. That devilish wee Scot rave-maker Rustie (whose about to tour the US taking in dates with Danny Brown and Oneohtrix Point Never, the lucky lad) brought buzzing producer Redinho onboard for his track Lost, his second single from the brilliant Green Language. Director Adam Hummel’s just turned out this video clip for the track, which he describes as: “the real-world, physical iteration of his 3D video work for Rustie’s new AV live show.” The clip depicts a bunch of intersecting illuminated light sculptures, that flash on and off in time to the robotic but heartfelt lyrics (“I’d…be…lost…with..out…you..”), interspersed with plantlife and subtle hints and shadowy silhoutttes of topless, tattooed women. It’s the perfect visual accompaniment for the soulful ambience of the track: Rustie’s headed our way for dates around the country at Laneway Festival next year. Green Language is available now on Warp.
