TikTok Music will close later this year as the social media company pivots to highlighting its Add To Music App.

When TikTok shared its biggest global tracks during the northern summer, independent labels or artists distributed 60% of the Top 10. 

The federal government promises to add legislation imposing an age limit on young people using social media before the next election.

It comes as Meta pushes harder for Instagram Reels to be a strong competitor to TikTok.

The policy would be an Australian first, with the SA government requiring teenagers between 14 and 15 to access platforms like TikTok with parental consent.

TikTok and Byte Dance called the decision “unconstitutional” and said the legislation is “singling out” and “silencing” the video-sharing app.

The joint agreement will see Universal Music Group’s recorded music return to TikTok.

Taylor Swift's music returns to TikTok after Universal pulled its roster from the platform earlier this year.
