Odesza

Odesza

Odesza (; stylized as ODESZA) is an American electronic music duo originating from Bellingham, Washington. It consists of Harrison Mills and Clayton Knight, known individually as Catacombkid and BeachesBeaches. They formed in 2012, shortly before Mills and Knight graduated from Western Washington University.

Their debut album, Summer's Gone, was released later in 2012 to acclaim in the underground electronic music community. After their debut extended play (EP), My Friends Never Die, in 2013, they released their second album, In Return, on September 9, 2014. It was the duo's debut release on Ninja Tune and its imprint, Counter Records. In 2016, "Say My Name" (RAC mix) gained the duo their first Grammy nomination (Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical) at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards. A Moment Apart, their third studio album, was released on September 8, 2017. It reached number three on the Billboard 200, while topping the Top Electronic/Dance Albums Chart. It was nominated for Best Dance/Electronic Album, with "Line of Sight" also nominated for Best Dance Recording, at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards in 2018. ODESZA released their fourth studio album, The Last Goodbye, on July 22, 2022 through Ninja Tune. The album was nominated for Best Dance/Electronic Album for the 65th Grammy Awards.

The duo was also nominated in 2017 for Producer of the Year at the Electronic Music Awards. They have founded and operated their own record label, Foreign Family Collective, which distributes songs as well as visual art from artists. Furthermore, Billboard named Odesza as number 10 on their 2018 ranking of dance musicians, the Billboard Dance 100.

ODESZA - In Return
One of CIRCO's many bright lights have announced a new album.. For some members of the Pilerats office, getting ODESZA to Australia had been a project some three years in the making. To finally have them over last month to play at CIRCO Festival was, to put it bluntly, fucking awesome. Three years of incredible music, a bunch of free EPs/releases, their beautiful track Sun Models killing it on the first ever Pilerats RAT PACK COMPILATION, and talk of a cracking live show all lived up to the hype when they rocked probably the biggest crowd the trippy as shit Cannonball Stage had all day. The fact they were a couple of super-nice dudes (read an interview with them HERE) was just a bonus, and we like to think this is the beginning of a long and fruitful relationship between the duo and Australia for years to come. They've just announced their new album, In Return, is due for release September 9, 2014, and have dropped a new track to celebrate - Memories That You Call (feat. Monsoonsiren).

Zhu - Faded: The Remixes
They are plenty, and they are grand.. It's not surprising that Zhu's barnstorming debut single Faded is getting a lot of remix love. While we can't speak for the rest of the world, something about it has clicked massively in Australia, and the vibes continue with this pretty epic remix package. We've already shared Trumpdisco's BANGIN' EDIT of it (which doesn't feature on this official package), along with ODESZA's dark'n'twisty take (which does), and you can now add The Magician, AMTRAC, TACHES and the so-hot-right-now Lido to the list. The five-track release offers a little something for everyone, from The Magician's winding (and slightly harder than his usual disco-leaning steez) house, AMTRAC's electro-housey version, TACHES' minimal effort or Lido just doin' whatever the hell he pleases. A deserving package for a big big tune.

Zhu - Faded (ODESZA Remix)
This year's biggest dance track gets the ODESZA flip.. Sometimes the stars just align and some of your favourite artists combine for rad results. In today's edition of that happening, one of the CIRCO Festival acts we're beyond excited about is ODESZA (check our interview with them HERE), and they've turned their attention to Zhu's huge (and getting huger) track, Faded. We have it on pretty good authority Zhu will be down under a bit later in the year (in fact there'll probably be a post about that tomorrow), but until then enjoy ODESZA's slightly darker take on what will surely end up being one of 2014's most played tracks. Along with CIRCO Festival, ODESZA are playing a few sideshows while they're in the country. It's criminal that it's taken them this long to get down here, so make sure you catch 'em: 21 June: Sydney @ The Roller Den DJ Set at RÜFÜS Afterparty 22 June: Sydney @ Enmore Theatre w/ RÜFÜS 25 June: Melbourne @ 170 Russell w/ Kele & Hayden James 26 June: Sydney @ The Met

Interview - ODESZA
Probably the act we're most excited about at Circo Festival.. ODESZA are two-piece production duo made up of Harrison Mills and Clayton Knight, an enigmatic two-some who have been pouring out irresistible, sample-filled tracks for a few years now. Circo Festival (Perth, June 28) has recruited this duo to bust out the best they have in what will be their first ever shows in Australia. They're also playing a couple of sideshows with Kele (Bloc Party) and Hayden James (170 Russell June 25; Metro Theatre June 26), but before this all happens, Liam Apter got a hold of ODESZA's Clayton Knight to talk about what we can expect when they come over to Australia, how their set has changed over time and their upcoming album release.
