Melbourne's killer music and arts festival gets a new home and an amazing lineup.. Melbourne’s most progressive music and arts festival - a place for creativity to be absorbed and celebrated - Sugar Mountain will take place in its fourth year on Saturday 24 January, 2015 at a brand new, inner-city location – VCA (Victorian College of the Arts). After three successive years at The Forum, starting with the inaugural festival in 2011, the event organisers - Tig Huggins, Pete Keen, Brett Louis and Nicci Reid - partnered with Melbourne’s Mushroom Group in order to realise their grand vision and 18 months in the making Sugar Mountain returns with a - put simply - stellar lineup of music and visual artists that has us on the west coast scouring plane ticket prices. A new series curated by artists Sean Morris and Tom Groves.. The first venture from new Australian arts project Black Canyon opens in Melbourne Friday 29 August, and Welcome To Black Canyon will feature large-scale print work by artists from Spain, France, England, Canada, Germany and the USA (many who've never shown in Australia before) alongside a heap of local favourites. Launching on the night will be the limited run risograph publication 'Black Canyon Vision Quest 1', a collection of bold, aggressive illustration and design, and Black Canyon’s statement of intent. No frills, no filler, just 16 young artists making uncompromising work. The project is a collaboration between Sean Morris and Tom Groves, who first worked together on the Gold Blood, Magic Weirdos group show at Backwoods Gallery in March this year, and Welcome To Black Canyon runs until Sunday 31 August, featuring this huge range of artists: SIMON LANDREIN (FR); IRKUS M.
