Last night's ARIA Awards dominated social media but the results weren't as pleasing for the TV ratings.

As TV Tonight reports, the Channel Nine broadcast drew an audience of 500,000, down on 2017's viewership of 515,000 and 2016's 586,000.

However it still topped the 16-39 and 18-49 demographics, with 120,000 and 221,000 viewers respectively.

ABC's night of light entertainment was the big winner for Wednesday night television, with Tom Gleeson's Hard Quiz drawing 742,000 and Shaun Micallef's Mad As Hell with 719,000.

However, thanks to some of last night's attendees such as 5 Seconds Of Summer, Troye Sivan, Rita Ora and host Keith Urban, the ARIA Awards' official red carpet stream drew over three million viewers across the near-three-hour broadcast.

Meanwhile as of this morning, the ARIAs and some of last night's winners and performers were still some of the top trending topics on Twitter in Australia, including Amy Shark and 5SOS.

The 2018 ARIAs delivered some memorable moments too, including a touching Hall Of Fame induction for Kasey Chambers and some stand-out performances.
