The revered West Australian outfit are returning to the fore.

More Gyroscope More Gyroscope

Perth heroes Gyroscope have a bunch of good news to share today in the form of their first studio recordings in seven years — a double A-side single, at that — and a five-date national tour this January.

Joined by primary support act Horror My Friend, Gyroscope will play shows in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and in their hometown with respective local supports Crum, Sweet Gold, Hatakaze, The Best Extras and The Faim (formerly Small Town Heroes).

Their new tunes — titled Crooked Thought and DABS — have emerged from a series of occasional "boozy and slightly stoney evenings" at frontman Daniel Sanders' home studio, The Cabin.

"Sometimes through the thick haze and big beer walls we get a glimpse of an idea, and if we are luckey enough to persuade it a little, it grows," Sanders said in a statement. "Plant, then reap what you sow. This is the season. This is our crop."

During the recording sessions, which happened "during a couple of rainy days" this year with Dave 'Parko' Parkin, the band "made a combined conscious effort to not fuck with a bunch of different guitar amps and try loads of weird sounds" on the new singles.

"We didn't go and try this and that in regard to overdubbing layers," Sanders said. "We took a very live approach to it all from the get-go, really. Necked some beers, plugged in and turned up… then turned up some more… then Parko would tell us to turn down… but we never did."

Tickets for the fittingly titled 'Crooked Thoughts' tour are on sale now, and the double A-side is available via Universal Music Australia.
