Album Review: John Butler Trio - Home

After four years of radio silence, John Butler Trio are back with an edgier new album, Home, and an extra two band members to help make magic.

Catchy opener Tahitian Blue brings out the banjos a sweet folk melody with love story lyrics. Things get edgier with a roaring guitar throughout Wade In The Water that almost feels a little rock'n'roll before single Home sees the trio diving into some electro synths. Home is definitely different to what fans know, however it still brings out the folk influences and Butler's vocals are still on point.

Lyrically, the album is about love and family, but also self-discovery as Butler realises we all grow and sometimes things change. Vocally, Butler's vocals are amazing throughout the album, getting especially get dreamy in Tell Me Why. Brown Eyed Bird starts off very serious before the infectious folk beat jumps in at the chorus, making you want to dance. The only negative thing about Home is that there is no standout track or anything that will leave fans wanting more. But it is a very humble, mature and refreshing album that any John Butler Trio fan will surely love.
