Album Review: Tremonti - Cauterize

Guitar virtuoso/vocalist Mark Tremonti has long been touted “the metal guy” in Creed and Alter Bridge. His second solo LP (featuring bassist Wolfgang Van Halen) further channels said influences; note Another Heart’s Gojira riff, pick scrapes included.

Occasional polyrhythmic flavours enhance the heavier approach, while galloping Radical Change underlines a penchant for thrash, albeit infused with that distinctive knack for melody. Flying Monkeys meshes chugging groove with nods to Alice in Chains; Sympathy absorbs lessons from his pedigree via an arena–sized chorus. Quality heavy rock from the man partially responsible for With Arms Wide Open – believe it.
