"If summer were a genre, this would be it."

If summer were a genre, this would be it.

Sure, it’s a little trite to open with what is essentially the reviewer’s equivalent of “Webster’s Dictionary defines”, but get your hands on this release and you’ll appreciate why it was necessary.

This six-track EP from the Perth-based five piece Choking Stanley is an amalgamation of bluesy riffs, funky bass lines and jazzy sax licks complemented by cracking – almost theatrical – vocals. It is fun, summery and doesn’t take itself too seriously.

While the recording itself is a little raw, it works. Hands down, this band would shine brightest live.
