The Acts You Don't Want To Miss At WAMFest

It won't be long until these acts hit the global stage.

More Ziggy Ramo More Ziggy Ramo

The epic WAMFest line-up will take over a slew of venues across the city and beyond from 1 – 5 November, and with such a juicy local program on offer, we thought we’d relieve some of that scheduling anxiety by highlighting five acts you don’t want to miss.

Stella Donnelly

If you haven’t heard about rising star Stella Donnelly, you must be living under a rock. The Perth singer-songwriter has been garnering a massive amount of attention not just nationally, but across the globe, and for good reason.

We caught her during BIGSOUND last month where she stunned audiences: “Across the board, this muso is firmly on the path to greatness; it's genuinely only a matter of time before she's the name on everyone's lips.” Read more.

When & Where: 4 Nov, The Lot Party (8pm)

John Bennett

Speaking with The Music earlier this month, WAMAwards Best Indigenous Act nominee John Bennett said his live set will be like no other during the event, transporting punters “to his country, where the desert meets the sea” via songs from his upcoming LP, County Is Calling. Listening to his latest single, Wangkaja, it’s not hard to imagine.

When & Where: 2 Nov, WAMAwards; 4 Nov, The Lot Part (4:50pm)

The Faim

Another act set to take over the world is The Faim (previously known as Small Town Heroes). They’ve spent most of the year working on new music in LA with producing legend John Feldmann of Goldfinger fame, and have been co-writing with Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz, Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus, Twenty One Pilots’ Josh Dunn and more. If they’ve sparked the interest of those heavyhitters, you just know they’re onto something big.

When & Where: 3 Nov, Amplifier Bar (10:50pm)

Ziggy Ramo

Another BIGSOUND breakout act, Ziggy Ramo’s powerful lyrics, slick bars and eclectic beats scored him a bookings deal last month, which promises big things.

We also gave him rave reviews during BIGSOUND: “Ziggy Ramo and his band are a simply phenomenal sight to behold…Ramo is a one-of-a-kind performer.” Read more.

When & Where: 4 Nov, The Lot Part (8:40pm)

Segue Safari

We’ve been fans of Perth rockers Segue Safari for some time now, so much so that we threw our support behind them for this year’s Falls Downtown Foster A Band initiative. The lo-fi, alt-pop sounds of Segue Safari’s latest offering, Salutations, show a band intent on exploring new territory and perfecting contemplative lyricism and thoughtful arrangements. They’re also killer live.

When & Where: 4 Nov, The Boston (11:20pm)

Here’s who some of the WAMFest bands are pumped to check out:

JFK

“That's a really tough question - the line-up this year is insane. Definitely our buddies in Big Orange, FLOSSY, Candy Guts and Edie Green, and hopefully Childsaint, BOAT SHOW and Grievous Bodily Calm as well.”

The Money War

“Beach Aunty, Lilt, Segue Safari, The Gyprockers, Lucy Peach.”

Furball

“Carla Geneve and Grievous Bodily Calm, so I can go home feeling like the shittest musician ever. Oh, we can't forget Pat Chow. Damn. I can't wait for that band.”

Ruby May

“Grace Barbe, Old Blood, The Durongs, Marmalade Mama, SRB and Edie Green.”

Old Blood

“Carla Geneve, The Durongs, Furball, Grevious Bodily Calm.”
