More King Stingray More King Stingray

The hype for King Stingray’s second album is growing stronger by the minute, and now the band have thrown some new fuel on the fire with the announcement of a regional tour.

The 11-show run will kick off in Castlemaine on Thursday July 18, when the Yolŋu surf-rockers take the stage at the Theatre Royal. Following that will be back-to-back shows in Frankston (Friday July 19 at the Pier Bandroom) and Torquay (Saturday July 20 at the Torquay Hotel), before they head north for shows in Byron Bay (Thursday August 8 at the Beach Hotel), the Gold Coast (Friday August 9 at Miami Marketta) and Maroochydore (Saturday August 10 at Solbar).

King Stingray will then roll southward through New South Wales, playing Hoey Moey in Coffs Harbour on Wednesday August 14, then the King Street Bandroom in Newcastle the following night (August 15), and finally Waves in Wollongong the night after that (August 16). Just for good measure, they’ll wrap it all up with a hometown show at East Arnhem Live in Nhulunbuy on Saturday August 31.

Jem Cassar-Daley will join the band for all but the last show on the itinerary, with another special guest also set to be announced in the coming weeks. Tickets for the whole tour are on sale now – head here to grab yours.

King Stingray are yet to formally announce their second studio album, but they confirmed back in March that it’s on the way, sharing a series of photos they took at The Grove Studios in Sydney. The same month, they shared the first preview of the record with a soaring and triumphant new tune called Through The Trees.

Reviewing a show of theirs in April 2022, Mick Radojkovic wrote for TheMusic.com.au: “There seemed to be little nerves, despite playing to what is surely one of their biggest audience yet. Their songs, representing camp-life, being one people, coming together and generally uplifting subjects, combined with a stomping guitar and driving drums, ensured the rock-thirsty crowd's appetite was sufficiently whetted.”
