A month after John Farnham was revealed to have been given the “all clear” of cancer, the singer has offered his first official public statement since announcing his mouth cancer diagnosis and plans for surgery in August 2022. To the delight of his family, friends and devoted fans, John Farnham is back at home.

In August 2022, Farnham had successful surgery that removed a cancerous growth in his mouthNine News reports that the surgery took 12 hours and required 26 surgeons.

Today marks the one-year anniversary of Farnham’s initial surgery. The journey has been rife with challenges, including reconstructive plastic surgery and treatment for a lung infection which brought Farnham into rehabilitation care. During that time in and out of care, the You’re The Voice singer experienced eight weeks of radiation treatment and surgeries.

“I am the luckiest man I know right now,” Farnham began in a candid statement. “It’s been a year since my first surgery and to be honest I’ve lost count as to how many other procedures there’s been since then. I'm sure someone’s kept track of them all - let’s just say, there’s been a few.

“But, I'm home now and I’m a very grateful and happy man. I’m sitting here in my living room lapping up the attention from my beautiful wife, Jill, my boys Rob and James and my mini Schnauzer, Edmund.”

The singer continued, referring to the website established for fans to send their love and support to Farnham, weloveyoujohn, “It’s only now that I can start to appreciate and comprehend, for myself, how many messages of love and support have been sent to me over the past year.

“I don’t know what to say, other than thank you so very much. It honestly means the world to me. Thank you to everyone who took the time to write and send a message.

“Today is a special day. And I’m going to mark it by having a pizza - because I can! I can’t wait to see what might be next on the menu. Bring on 2024.”

Last month, Farnham’s son, Robert, told the team on Sunrise that his dad was “cancer free” and “feeling really, really happy”.

Robert said, “He’s doing fantastic. Just the other day, he was, you know, walking around with his cane and did a little bit of a dance, which was pretty fabulous.

“He’s walking with his dog a lot — so he’s really, really happy.” Robert added, “He sings at home again, the whole thing.”
