John Farnham’s son, Robert, appeared on Sunrise this morning and told Australia the news we’ve all been waiting to hear: his legendary father is officially cancer-free.

Arriving on screen alongside his dad’s longtime friend and wife to the late Glenn Wheatley, who was Farnham’s manager, Gaynor Wheatley and Robert put smiles on the faces of music lovers across the country when revealing that John Farnham is “tap dancing” and singing once again.

It’s been almost a year since we heard the shocking news – in August 2022, Farnham had successful surgery that removed a cancerous growth in his mouth. Nine News reports that the surgery took 12 hours and required 26 surgeons.

Farnham said about the diagnosis last year, “Cancer diagnosis is something that so many people face every single day, and countless others have walked this path before me.

"The one thing I know for sure is that we have the best specialist healthcare professionals in Victoria, and we can all be grateful for that. I know I am.”

A few weeks later, he was discharged and moved to a rehabilitation centre to continue his treatment.

Nearly twelve months later, Robert has revealed that John is “cancer-free” and feeling “really, really happy”. Robert added, “He’s doing fantastic. Just the other day, he was, you know, walking around with his cane and did a little bit of a dance, which was pretty fabulous.

“He’s walking with his dog a lot — so he’s really, really happy.” And to the delight of everyone who’s grown up loving Farnham’s music, Robert said: “He sings at home again, the whole thing.”

The excellent news arrives as John Farnham: Finding The Voice will have its free-to-air premiere on Channel 7 tonight at 7:30 pm. Viewers can also watch on 7Plus.

To celebrate the premiere, The Music went down memory lane and published Thirteen John Farnham Songs You Should Know. You can find that here.
