Britney Spears has shut down those “trash” new album rumours, firing back at headlines about her working with singer/songwriters including Charli XCX and Julia Michaels.

The Sun – based on the intel of unnamed sources – recently claimed that “Work has been going behind the scenes for quite a while to gather a series of killer songs to bring Britney back with a bang.” The report also indicated that Spears’ team hopes new music will come out in 2024.

Sharing an image of the Italian Renaissance painting “Salome Bearing the Head of St. John the Baptist” (per Variety) on Instagram today, Spears addressed the rumours and wrote in the caption, “Just so we’re clear most of the news is trash! They keep saying I’m turning to random people to do a new album… I will never return to the music industry!”

Calling herself a “ghostwriter” for other artists, Spears continued, “When I write, I write for fun, or I write for other people!

“For those of you who have read my book, there’s loads that you don’t know about me… I’ve written over 20 songs for other people the past two years! I’m a ghostwriter and I honestly enjoy it that way!”

At the end of her post, Spears wrote, “People are also saying MY BOOK WAS RELEASED WITHOUT MY APPROVAL ILLEGALLY and that’s far from the truth… have you read the news these days? I’m so LOVED and blessed!”
