There Are Seven Times More Post Malone Songs In The ARIA Singles Chart Than Aussie Tracks

Post Malone's utter domination of the ARIA charts this past weekend has not only broken some significant records, but it has resulted in some damning figures for Australian music in the charts.
This week's Singles list saw a whopping 14 tracks from the US rapper featured in the top 40; seven times the number of local songs, which includes just two - 5 Seconds Of Summer's Youngblood at #24 and Amy Shark's I Said Hi at #28.
Malone took out top spot with Psycho (and #1 on the Albums chart with second LP Beerbongs & Bentleys) and had another five songs in the top 20, while no Australian songs featured in that bracket.
The 22-year-old New York artist's incredible record of 17 songs in the top 50 (including 13 debuts) has equalled a record held by Michael Jackson for most tracks in the top 50, which the late music icon achieved in July 2009, just a month after his death.

Malone has also equalled Ed Sheeran's record for most debuts in one week in the ARIA Top 50, which the UK songwriter achieved with his Grammy award-winning album ÷ (Divide) in March last year.

It comes after a similar instance last year, when more songs featuring Justin Bieber were listed in the top 20 over Australian songs.
Speaking to The Music last August, Managing Director of SGC Media, Stephen Green, said the industry needs to accept that "the system is broken" and find a way to fix it.
"It's not about blaming streaming or radio - people in there want Australian music to thrive as much as anyone," Green said.
"It's also not about re-weighting the chart to pretend like our songs are being heard when they aren't."
