Australian boy band singer Trent Bell has thrown himself back into the limelight following his audition on The Voice on Tuesday night.

The Townsville artist, best known as a member of former group The Collective, appeared on the program and won over the judges with his performance of Bon Jovi's Always. Bell eventually chose to join Delta Goodrem's team.

"I need to have your voice on my team," Goodrem said following the audition.

"I know your voice. We haven't had a voice like that since Jack Jones and John Farnham. It's, like, that's what I love.

"That Australian big voice is my passion. And I think you have that, so you have to come on my team."

The Collective, which also featured William Singe (featured in Jonas Blue's 2017 hit track, Mama) formed in 2012 during the fourth season of The X Factor Australia where they finished third.

The group later signed with Sony Music Australia and released their debut single, Surrender, which peaked on the ARIA Singles chart at #6.

Their 2012 self-titled debut album peaked on the ARIA Albums chart at #11.

They eventually broke up in 2015 to pursue solo careers.

Bell's latest single, Gravity, was released this past March.

"I did have some success in a boy band," Bell said in a pre-recorded video before the audition.

"We got signed to a record label, which then led me to an amazing music career.

"But the music industry isn't just straightforward. After four years, I'm no longer in a boy band, I'm no longer with a label.

"I feel a little bit lost at the moment. I've been told no a million times. And it feels good when you get a yes. That's what I'm here for."

The singer's call-up follows outstanding auditions from Perth artist Sam Perry and Alice Springs songwriter Colin Lillie, who opted to join Kelly Rowland and Boy George's teams respectively.

Meanwhile, as TV Tonight reports, this season of The Voice has featured a number of past reality TV singing competition participants, including Brock Ashby of boy band Moorhouse (The X Factor NZ 2013), Chrislyn Hamilton (Australian Idol 2008) and Jacinta Gulisano of Third Degree (The X Factor 2013).
