Macklemore Dismisses 'Angry Old White Dudes' Bent Out Of Shape Over 'Same Love' NRL GF Gig

Macklemore has hit back at criticism that he will perform equality anthem Same Love at this weekend's NRL grand final, insisting he will "go harder" come Sunday night.

While Tony Abbott tweeted yesterday that "footy fans shouldn’t be subjected to a politicised grand final", a Change.org petition was also launched by ex-NRL player Tony Wall who is pushing for the song to be banned from the pre-game entertainment.

However, as noted by Fairfax, the rapper appeared on US radio program The Cruz Show and dismissed the criticism.

"I'm actually going to Australia to perform at, kind of, the Superbowl of their Rugby League," Macklemore said.

"It's interesting because I am playing Same Love, and they are going through, right now, trying to legalise same sex marriage.

"I'm getting a lot of tweets from angry old white dudes in Australia. I think there is a petition today to ban me from playing.”

He concluded, "Imma go harder, Imma love."

The news comes only after it was reported the North Queensland Cowboys' training session at ANZ Stadium this week was bumped to make way for Macklemore's dress rehearsals.

The live performance will be screened on Channel Nine from 6.30pm on Sunday, 1 October.
