It wasn't Pearl Jam after all.

More Macklemore More Macklemore

Earlier this year the rumour mill suggested Pearl Jam were being chased, but it has today been confirmed that US rapper Macklemore will headline the NRL grand final pre-game show this year.

The Grammy Award-winning artist will take to the stage at ANZ Stadium on 1 October to play a string of his hits, including latest single, Glorious.

The pre-game show will be Macklemore's only performance in the country during his short stay.

"I couldn't be more honoured and excited to perform at the NRL grand final," Macklemore said.

"It'll be one of the largest crowds I've performed for thus far and my only show in Australia this year. I'm humbled to have the opportunity to reach such a large, enthusiastic NRL audience."

The news comes after rival code AFL confirmed in June that fellow US act, The Killers, will take on headlining duties at its grand final in Melbourne at the end of the month.
