"Historically no other song by a Gold Coast-based artist has ever received such national and international acclaim."

The Gold Coast celebrated its brightest musical stars at last night's third annual Gold Coast Music Awards, which saw nationally acclaimed artist Amy Shark take out the prize in two of its eight categories.

The Adore scribe won Song Of The Year for her ubiquitous #2 Hottest 100 placer, as well as Artist Of The Year, in recognition of her increasing renown through pursuits such as a national tour and her upcoming slot at Splendour In The Grass.

"Historically no other song by a Gold Coast-based artist has ever received such national and international acclaim, and for one very good reason — it's brilliant," judging panel chair Trevor Jackson said.

"It's been an incredible year for Amy, and her success at the 2017 Gold Coast Music Awards recognises the consistency of her work and her outstanding recent success."

Shark was also nominated for Video Of The Year, though that award ultimately went to heavy metal crew The Black Swamp for their impressive, cost-effective clip for Common Crows, directed by Jayden Stevens.

They were flanked by fellow winners Tesla Coils, who won the coveted Breakout Artist Of The Year award; hip hop duo Lane-Harry x Ike Campbell, whose full-length effort Youth scored them Album Of The Year; and People's Choice victors Being Jane Lane.

It wasn't just artists that were recognised, either, with celebrated festival Blues On Broadbeach earning a nod as this year's Music Event Of The Year, while beloved hangout elsewhere was named Live Music Venue Of The Year.

"The debate can often be fierce between judges, and reaching consensus can be a challenge," Jackson said. "But with the wide representation of top industry professionals, musicians, journalists, educators, festival directors, artist managers, label owners and producers on the panel, we are confident and excited about this year's results."

The night also featured live performances from several winners and nominees, including Shark herself as well as Hanlon Brothers and Aquila Young, both of whom will be performing at this weekend's Surfers Paradise LIVE festival.

The GCMAs were held at Surfers Paradise Beach and served as the kick-off for that event, which is organised by the Surfers Paradise Alliance runs across the precinct through till this Sunday, 30 April.

"We offer our congratulations to the winners, nominees, judges and organisers for an outstanding Music Awards," alliance chief executive Mike Winlaw said. "We knew this partnership would be a win-win, and last night has truly set the stage for an exciting few years to come for Gold Coast music."

We were lucky enough to have a front-row seat to all the action at last night's ceremony thanks to Gold Coast industry champion Kylie Cobb, who took over our Instagram for the night and provided some stellar pics and videos from the event for those who couldn't make it.
