It's been a good year for Australian music

More Flume More Flume

It’s been an absolutely earth-shattering year for Sydney producer Flume following the release of Skin – an album that’s secured the legend the spot of top local artist for 2016 on Apple Music and iTunes in Australia.

The news follows on from yesterday’s massive Grammy nomination and eight ARIA awards last month, with Skin perched at fifth place on the top albums of the year – behind international stars Drake, Adele, Justin Bieber and Frank Ocean, in that order.

Album cuts Skin featuring Kai and Say It featuring Tove Lo landed #5 and #35 respectively on the singles list.

Adelaide superstar Sia also made a strong impression, with This Is Acting being the ninth most popular album and Cheap Thrills being the 12th most popular song in 2016, while RufusBloom was the second most popular Aussie album of the year and seventh overall.

Fellow SA talent Hilltops Hoods also score multiple mentions following Drinking from the Sun, Walking Under Stars Restrung, which placed tenth to be the fourth most popular local release across the two platforms while single 1955 featuring Montaigne and Tom Thum was the third most popular Aussie single, with an overall score of 23.

Illy’s Vera Blue collab, Papercuts, also made it into the figures, landing 35 to be the fifth most popular single in the country.
