Massive Aussie Names Pick Up 2017 Grammy Nominations

The 59th Grammy Award nominations were announced earlier today and some of our homegrown acts have picked up multiple awards, led by Sia and Flume.

While US superstar Beyonce leads the way with nine nominations, Adelaide's own Sia has picked up two nominations in the Best Pop Duo/ Group Performance category for Cheap Thrills, as well as Best Pop Vocal Album for her seventh and latest studio album, This Is Acting. 

Meanwhile US producer Greg Kurstin scored a nomination in the Producer Of The Year category for Cheap Thrills, while Sia also features in the Best Song Written For Visual Media list for her songwriting credits in Shakira's Try Everything.

After blitzing through last month's ARIA Awards with five gongs, Sydney producer Flume has also been nominated for two Grammys, picking up nods for Best Dance Recording (Never Be Like You featuring Kai) and Best Dance/Electronic Album (Skin).

Staying on the dance scene, a remix of local songwriter Ry X's Only by US heavyweight Kaskade and Melbourne's own Lipless has also scored a nod in the Best Remixed Recording category.

Though he lived in New Zealand for most of his teenage life, we're still going to claim Keith Urban as one of of our own, and as such, we're wrapped to hear the country artist has picked up three nominations.

The singer's hit song, Blue Ain't Your Color, has been selected in both the Best Country Solo Performance and Best Country Song categories. 

Urban's #1 Aussie album, Ripcord, has also picked up a nomination in the Best Country Album list. 

Elsewhere, Sydney-based Christian music group, Hillsong Young & Free, earned a nod in the Best Contemporary Christian Music Album category for Youth Revival (Live).

Though Beyonce is expected to dominate next year's ceremony, she will go up against Adele in a few categories, just a few weeks before the UK singer heads to Australia. 

Adele has picked up five nods overall, but will do battle with Queen Bee for Record Of The Year, Album Of The Year, Song Of The Year and Best Pop Solo Performance.

Late music icon David Bowie's final album Blackstar has also been recognised and has received a number of nominations for next year's ceremony. 

The eponymous lead single has picked up nominations in the Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song categories, while the LP is also up for Best Alternative Music Album, Best Recording Package and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical.

Others set for a big 2017 Grammys include Drake, Kanye West and Rihanna, who have all picked up eight nominations, as well as Justin Bieber and Chance The Rapper with seven nominations each.

The 58th Grammy Awards will be held at Staples Center in LA on 12 February.
