It's A Miracle - Acting Premier Supports Changes To Lockout Laws

You've read that correctly.

Don't stop reading this, you are NOT dreaming — acting Premier Troy Grant has publicly stated that if next month's review of the lockout laws were to move from 1.30am to 3am, he would support it — we know, right?

According to The Daily Telegraph, Grant, who has taken over as acting Premier for a week while Mike Baird works with youth in the Northern Territory, is also pushing to end the 10pm closing time for bottle shops.

"Every bit of evidence I’ve seen or heard about, even in my previous experience with liquor accord arrangements, it’s not the lockouts that have the greatest impact, it’s the last drinks," Grant said.

A full review of the legislation is expected to be delivered in August by former judge Ian Callinan.

"If Callinan recommends pushing the lockouts back, I think it's something we absolutely should do," Grant continued.

"If you’re trying to control the quantity of alcohol people consume… last drinks is most effective," adding that it's "hard to see where the justification was for the 10pm bottle shop closures in the first place".

If Baird can get on board with Grant's mindset than maybe there is still some hope for Sydney's nightlife.
