SA continues to take over the world
With an increasing global presence and dominating festival scene, Adelaide now has one of the biggest Fringe Festivals in the world after smashing previous records in 2016.
The festival today released its annual review, which showed a $21.7 million rise in income to the state from interstate and global punters (up from $19.6 million in 2015) and around 13,500 attending, an increase of 70% and 14% respectively.
As The Lead reports, the new figures are helping Adelaide Fringe inch closer to becoming the second biggest Fringe Festival in the world; the top honours going to Edinburgh Festival Fringe, which runs for three weeks every August.
The 2016 event, which ran through February and March, featured more than 4,400 artists and 1,124 events across 430 venues, with $14.8 million generated in box office revenue through around 600,000 ticket sales.
