'Fake My Own Death' is solid from start to finish
A lot has changed for seminal Canadian pop punkers Sum 41 since the release of their last record in 2011, and after signing to Hopeless Records back in May, the first taste of their comeback record has surfaced online through single Fake My Own Death.
The band took some time off after the release of Scream Bloody Murder when vocalist Deryck Whibley was hospitalised for excessive alcohol consumption, and upon their return welcomed founding guitarist Dave "Brownsound" Baksh back, an addition that’s no doubt contributed to Sum 41 returning to a metal-influenced sound similar to that off 2004’s Chuck.
Fake My Own Death is taken from the band’s sixth record, 13 Voices, which will drop on October 7.
The new music from Sum 41 renders a massive week for pop punk fans, with Blink-182 (our cover stars this week) set to drop their new record, California, on Friday.
