How Madonna Extended A Massive Record With Her Latest Tour

After wrapping up her Rebel Heart world tour in Sydney last week, US pop star Madonna has extended her record as the highest-grossing solo artist, with new figures showing that the singer's latest and tenth world tour earned $US169.8 million, with over one million tickets sold to 82 performances.

According to Billboard, the figures have boosted the 57-year-old's record as her concerts overall, spanning back to 1990, have grossed $US1.31 billion.

Madonna first scored the highest-grossing solo artist record in 2009 with her Sticky & Sweet tour and held onto it until 2012, before fellow US musician Bruce Springsteen surpassed her with his Wrecking Ball (2012) and High Hopes (2014) world tours, however Madonna has reclaimed the title with her Rebel Heart tour. 

She also ranks as the third highest all-time top-grossing touring acts on the Billboard Boxscore list, only behind The Rolling Stones ($US1.84 billion) and U2 ($US1.67 billion).

Madonna had an interesting return to Australia this time around, with many complaining about the singer hitting the stage over two hours late to some shows, while she accepted criticism for an exclusive Tears Of A Clown performance in Melbourne, for which she was five hours late to.
