The German superstar is recovering after apparently misjudging his steps at A State Of Trance, Netherlands

Grammy-winning German DJ and producer Paul Van Dyk is in hospital after falling off stage at A State Of Trance Festival in Utrecht, Netherlands, it has been confirmed.

As Your EDM reports, the news was initially broken via witness accounts before creator/curator and fellow DJ Armin Van Buuren corroborated the events, which occurred on Sunday afternoon (AEST), with a statement made on his personal Facebook page and website advising that Van Dyk was being transported to hospital.

"Tonight Paul Van Dyk fell off the stage," Van Buuren wrote in his statement. "He's on his way to the hospital. He's one of the heroes of A State Of Trance Festival and that's why we have closed the Mainstage."

Representatives for Van Dyk soon updated fans on his condition with a Facebook pos of their own, explaining that the seasoned DJ was in hospital but remaining tight-lipped about the extent of his injuries.

"Thank you for the overwhelming show of love and support for Paul," the post read. "As you know there was an accident last night causing Paul to fall from an elevated festival stage. Paul is currently in the hospital.

"Further details about the cause of this accident or the injuries sustained by Paul are not yet available. We will post an update as soon as possible."

It's the age of the internet, so naturally someone in attendance captured the incident on film; see below for some potato footage of the fall (about 28 seconds in).
