"We are greatly surprised at the lack of sales and cannot proceed both financially or logistically."

Less than a week out from Sydney's very first Out On The Weekend Americana festival, the day has been cancelled citing surprising lack of sales as the reason.

With Kasey Chambers, The Morrisons, Sam Outlaw and more slated in to play, along with a slew of tasty food options from Porteno and Mary's Burgers, promoters have said, "We regret to advise that due to less than anticipated ticket sales, we are no longer proceeding with Out On The Weekend at Bella Vista Farm on October 24.

"While our expectations were not huge, we are greatly surprised at the lack of sales and cannot proceed both financially or logistically with the number of tickets sold."

The cancellation sadly comes after an announcement from festival organisers back in July that they would expand to include Sydney for the first time this year, stating: "Rest assured all the bits that made Melbourne incredible will be on offer in both fine cities in our attempt to bring the good times to all."

To those who did purchase tickets for the Bella Vista Farm festival, Out On The Weekend are offering a free ticket to a couple of shows — you can head to international acts Sam Outlaw, Jonny Fritz, Shelly Colvin and Robert Ellis at Newtown Social on Sunday, 25 October, or Jamestown Revival on Thursday, 22 October, also at Newtown Social.

Meanwhile, our reviewer over at Melbourne's Out On The Weekend this weekend said, "the crowd-friendly scheduling makes it easy to cram in back-to-back sets, which is good news, since there's very little dead weight on the bill … an enjoyable end to an enjoyable day."
