Petition Calls For Immigration Minister To Ban Chris Brown From Australia

Amid speculation that US artist Chris Brown may not be granted a visa to enter New Zealand this December for his One Hell Of A Nite Tour, a petition has now been launched in Australia calling on the Immigration Minister to ban the singer from entering the country. 

The new petition urging Brown to be turned away from Australia surrounds his violent past, specifically the 2010 incident where the 26-year-old was charged for physically attacking his then-girlfriend Rihanna. 

Read the full message to Immigration Minister Peter Dutton below. 

"To the Immigration Minister of Australia, 

We urge you to refuse Chris Brown a visa to visit Australia. Due to his conviction of felony assault (a criminal charge), we believe he is in breach of the Australian visa character test, for having "a substantial criminal record" 

New Zealand have already indicated they are unlikely to allow Chris Brown into the country, following the lead of the UK. We ask that Australia follow suit. 

Chris Brown is an extremely influential figure, particularly among young people. Allowing his entry into Australia sends the message that the Turnbull government does not place significant weight and condemnation on men's violence against women."

Just last week the controversial R&B musician was involved in another assault investigation in the US, where a woman claimed she was "forcibly thrown" from Brown's tour bus.
