Posting big numbers.

The first part of the new Peter Allen miniseries Peter Allen: Not The Boy Next Door hit Aussie TV screens last night and it proved to be a huge success with the debut showing garnering a large viewership.

The show, which sees NIDA graduate Joel Jackson star as the late singer, pulled in an audience of 1.333 million viewers and was the third most watched show in the country last night.

As TV Tonight reports, the miniseries' ratings were only just behind fellow Seven network programs, Seven News (1.382 million) and the debut episode of the latest The X Factor series (1.506 million).

The results are no doubt incredibly impressive, though they were not enough to topple last year's miniseries based on legendary rock group INXSINXS: Never Tear Us Apart, which achieved a national ratings audience of a whopping 1.91 million.

It remains to be seen if the show will receive as much acclaim as the INXS program did which went on to garner a slew of AACTA and Logie nominations this year, including a win in the Most Outstanding Actor for Luke Arnold who portrayed the late Michael Hutchence.

It seems however that fans of the Peter Allen TV show are rediscovering their love of the artist as Allen's 2006 compilation album, The Ultimate Peter Allen, has made its way back on to the Aussie iTunes chart to place at #59.

Part two of the miniseries will screen on Channel Seven at 8.30pm on Sunday 20 September.
