The sudden announcement last October that co-founding member and guitarist Troy Brady of Aussie metalcore band, The Amity Affliction threw many fans off guard.

Speaking to The Music Network, the 31-year-old musician explained that while the call was in the best interests of himself and his band members, it wasn't an individual one.

"It was a decision which solely wasn’t mine,” Brady said.

"...It was something that we had to come to terms with on a personal and a business level."

Brady revealed that by the middle of last year, touring had taken an emotional and physical toll on him to the point where he had worn away the cartilage in his ankles and knees.

"My body was tired, travelling had become exhausting for me and everyone had grown aware of that," he admitted, adding: "I think at times I was unpleasant to travel with."

Not only had travelling become a displeasure for Brady, but a run-in with the law in which he copped a marijuana charge in 2003 had also made touring overseas a hindrance.

During trips to the US for shows over the past six years, Brady had to be joined by homeland security escorts and was forced to take different avenues from his band throughout the country due to the drug charge.

"Not being able to tour America and having the band play at least 75% of the shows in America, it was a serious issue," Brady said.

Looking back on his time with the Queensland-founded outfit Brady said: "It was a career where certain tours don’t do as well and you end up with financial deficits."

"Music is taxed so hard it’s hard to keep up and make sure you’re above board."

Brady is currently devoting his time to self-funded music label Elevnth Records which look after a slew of Aussie metal acts.

One of the label's current acts, Red Beard have today released a premiere video with TheMusic - check it out here

Meanwhile, The Amity Affliction are currently touring overseas as part of the Vans Warped Tour.
