More Cold Chisel More Cold Chisel

There's evident truth in the enduring adage "when it rains, it pours", for hot on the heels of the announcement that Aussie hard-rock legends Cold Chisel will be embarking on a national One Night Stand tour comes the revelation that they have also been named as this year's headliners for Strathpine's Decades Festival in October.

Cold Chisel have been enjoying a solid resurgence this year since their appearance a few months ago at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide, where they played to more than 35,000 people, and seeing tickets all but totally vanish for their series of Last Stand shows in Sydney this December — the kind of response that has directly prompted the One Night Stand expansion, which includes a high-profile entertainment slot at this year's NRL grand final.

Joining Cold Chisel in the first wave of renowned artists bound for Strathpine's second-ever Decades Festival will be veteran rock trio The Living End, who celebrate their 21st anniversary together as a band this year in a career that has yielded more than 25 ARIA Award nominations and five victories, and fellow alt-scene mainstays Something For Kate, with more acts yet to be announced.

Heralding the event's revelation, Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor Allan Sutherland said in a statement: "It's mind-blowing to think our region will host Aussie rock legends Cold Chisel and The Living End right here in Strathpine."

"In its second year now, Decades Festival has cemented our region's growing reputation as one of the best entertainment destinations in south-east Queensland," he said.

"This October, Pine Rivers Park won't fail to disappoint with the perfect mix of top-notch ticketed entertainmentn and free family fun right in the heart of the Moreton Bay region."

This year's Decades Festival will be held at Pine Rivers Park, Strathpine, on Saturday, 31 October, showcasing the best of entertainment and popular culture from the 1950s to 1990s. In addition to the musical guests, there is a '50s-'90s car show, Kustom Kulture art show, Visions Of Vintage stage entertainment (featuring pin-up competition), trade stalls, interactive sessions, vintage markets, a retro diner, and amusements, activities and workshops for all ages.

There are both ticketed and free events on offer at the Decades Festival — check the event's website for more information.
