Cosmic Psychos' New Clip Is A Brutal, Bloody Homage To 'Wolf Creek', And We Love It

We weren't planning on sleeping tonight anyway

More Cosmic Psychos More Cosmic Psychos

It's not often that a music video can get away with an acted-out scene that lasts for nearly half the entire thing, but in the case of legendary Aussie punk outfit Cosmic Psychos and their new clip for Better, Not Bitter, we'll enthusiastically allow it, because, man, have the veteran act pulled out the stops on this one in a big way.

Taken from forthcoming LP Cum The Raw Prawn (out 5 June on Desperate Records), Better, Not Bitter is a typically blistering punk scorcher that runs for a shade over three minutes, meaning the thespian foray that is the clip's introduction — which, along with the rest of the clip, is heavily, heavily inspired by cult Aussie horror series Wolf Creek — makes up close to 50% of its more-than-six-minute running time.

We wouldn't have it any other way, though, as the set-up, which sees three unfortunate souls — one of whom is played by radio's Ryan 'Fitzy' Fitzgerald, with Animal Kingdom alum Anthony Hayes and Justin Rosniak filling the remaining roles — stuck in the middle of fucken nowhere, lays the groundwork for the mayhem to follow, for once Better, Not Bitter's incendiary opening chords strike, so too does the brutality, as our cursed protagonists awake to find themselves in captivity, ripe for the very graphic slaughter at the hands of our old friends in Cosmic Psychos.

Watch it below, especially if you've ever been annoyed by Fitzy, but be warned: it's as gory as the best of them (remember the Scalphunter incident?), as well as being a surprisingly on-point homage to our own iconic home-grown horror franchise.

The clip was directed by Matt Weston, who also helmed the documentary about Cosmic Psychos, Blokes You Can Trust, and filmed on-location at the farm belonging to frontman Ross Knight, which… makes this too real, maybe.

Cosmic Psychos head out on tour with new young mates Dune Rats from Friday, 5 June, when they hit the Coolangatta Hotel. The bands will head from there to play shows in Brisbane, Melbourne, Newcastle, Camperdown, Mona Vale, Adelaide, Margaret River and Perth, where they finish up at the Rosemount otel on Saturday, 27 June.
