Back to the one-day format and no Adelaide

Soundwave is undergoing several changes in 2016, with the heavy music event to take place when Big Day Out used to be held.

Next year's festival will take place in January, and as expected, there will be no Adelaide leg, with only Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne confirmed. Soundwave will also revert back to its previous one-day format, following on from recent news Stereosonic will do the same this year.

The dates are as follows:

Brisbane: Saturday, 23 Jan
Sydney: Sunday, 24 Jan

Big Day Out, prior to this year, took place on and around Australia Day. Soundwave promoter AJ Maddah bought Ken West's stake in BDO in 2013 only to hand it back midway through last year to American company C3 Presents. At the time, C3 said of the long-running Aussie festival: "While we intend to bring back the festival in future years, we can confirm there will not be a Big Day Out in 2015."

Live Nation bought C3 late last year.
