In January, renowned Victorian punks The Smith Street Band released a surprise single, Wipe That Shit-Eating Grin Off Your Punchable Face (and its irresistable artwork), in an effort to raise money and awareness for asylum seekers.

Now, it looks like the exercise has paid off in spades, with the band revealing today they have raised more than $8000 — $8190, to be exact — in aid for asylum-seeker affairs organisation the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre.

The band promised at the time that 100% of all digital sales through till the end of February would be going to the ASRC, with a significant portion of the accompanying 7" sales also being sent charity's way.

"THANKS SO MUCH EVERYONE!!" the band enthused on Facebook today. "By giving our Punchable Face single so much love, YOU just raised $8190 for asylum seeker support organisations!! What a fucking incredible result!! We seriously can't thank you enough!"

As noted at the time, Wipe That Shit-Eating Grin Off Your Punchable Face was recorded during the band's Throw Me In The River Sessions, and was originally unveiled ahead of an Australia Day gig, for the Refugee Council of Australia and Oxfam, at Melbourne's Corner Hotel, which also featured The Bennies, Joelistics, Curse Ov Dialect, Fear Like Us and Stockades.

If you still haven't, give the track a spin below. Although buying the single now won't help the charity total, you can still make direct donations to both the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre and the Refugee Council Of Australia. See their websites for more information.
