Beloved Melburnian punk-rock outfit The Smith Street Band have released surprise new single Wipe That Shit-Eating Grin Off Your Punchable Face with some of the most complementary album artwork in history ahead of a charitable concert at the Corner Hotel this Australia Day.

The single, released in digital and 7" format, is a politically charged takedown of governmental policy regarding and treatment of asylum seekers — particularly fitting, given the gig on the 26th is in aid of The Refugee Council of Australia and Oxfam. The show, which is the fifth of its kind, will also feature The BenniesJoelisticsCurse Ov DialectFear Like Us and Stockades, all doing what they do best to raise awareness and promote a good cause.

You can hear the new track, which along with the B-side, God In The Name Of The Father, was recorded during the band's Throw Me In The River sessions, via the embed below. The band and their label, Poison City Records, will donate 100% of all digital sales through to the end of February, and a large portion of the 7" sales, to the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, Australia's leading asylum-seeker affairs organisation.

Both tracks will be available online via The Smith Street Band and Poison City's Bandcamp sites from 9am tomorrow. Pre-orders for the 7" are available now via Poison City; the release is officially out on 23 January.
