Was to be inducted into the Hall Of Fame

Much loved and respected music industry journalist Ed Nimmervoll has died in the early hours of this morning.

A staple of Australia’s music media landscape, Nimmervoll wrote books with, or for, Renee Geyer, Mark Seymour and Brian Cadd and founded Juke magazine. He was a particular authority on Australian chart history.

His daughter Amber confirmed the news on his Facebook today, writing that it was a short end to a long illness and that he was surrounded by his wife Jan and family when he passed. He is understood to have been 67.

“He will always be loved by many as a husband, father, grandfather, friend, colleague and mentor,” she wrote.

Industry identity Neil Wedd said in a statement, “He has been one of the greatest supporters of Australian music ever. From the ‘60s to the recent past.

“Many people have reason to be grateful for Ed writing about them, championing them, giving people ideas, teaching them about the business [at JMC College].”

Nimmervoll was to be inducted into the Music Victoria Hall Of Fame at their upcoming Awards in November. In conjunction with that his achievements were going to be honoured as part of a Face The Music exhibition.

Last year Nimmervoll confirmed he was recovering after collapsing at the ARIA Awards.
