Veteran Ed Nimmervoll was revived by medics

Veteran music writer Ed Nimmervoll is recovering after collapsing at Sunday's ARIA Awards and being revived by medics.

The incident occurred mid-way through proceedings at The Star as Shane Nicholson took to the stage to accept the best country album. A significant section of the audience could be seen to be reacting to the incident as a man was carried out of the crowd. At the time those in the lobby of The Star's Event Centre were ushered out onto the balcony as medics transported Nimmervoll.

His immediate condition was unknown on the night and yesterday, but in a statement today 66-year-old Nimmervoll himself has indicated that he is recovering after he “was out” for four minutes while “my wonderful companion, other guests and medics revived me.”

Nimmervoll, who has written book for or with the likes of Brian Cadd, Renee Geyer and Mark Seymour, has blacked-out once before, at one of The Dingoes' farewell performances.

“It's a separate medical problem to my brain tumour,” he wrote today. “We all have our personal problems. I have survived. I will survive, music is not a health hazard.”

He said, “I am a very very very lucky man” and wished he'd been there to see Russell Morris' triumph.
