What Can Overseas Festivals Tell Us About Soundwave 2014?

Who is on the circuit right now and how many of them will hit Soundwave?

We don't know much about being a festival promoter and/or booker, but we imagine that they pay a fair amount of attention to what their peers around the world are doing with their events.

So we thought we'd do the same and see if that unearths any hints about who might appear on tomorrow's Soundwave announcement. Even if none of them make it onto the bill, it's still interesting to see what fans in other parts of the world are getting to see.

ROCK IN RIO

Soundwave suitable: Living Colour, Muse, 30 Seconds to Mars, The Offspring, Marky Ramone, Metallica, Alice in Chains, Ghost, Rob Zombie, Sebastian Bach, Gogol Bordello, Iron Maiden, Avenged Sevenfold, Slayer, Sepultura, Helloween, Destruction

Possible: Not many of them, thanks to other Aussie tour plans or recent Soundwave visits. Alice In Chains are due to return and have played Soundwave before, making them most likely from the list. Living Colour could just fit in stylistically but honestly probably wouldn't, though we can't see why Helloween or Destruction wouldn't be decent inclusions.

MONSTERS OF ROCK, BRAZIL

Soundwave suitable:  Slipknot, Korn, Limp Bizkit, Killswitch Engage, Hatebreed, Gojira, Hellyeah, Aerosmith, Whitesnake, Ratt, Queensrÿche, Buckcherry, Dokken

Possible: Slipknot, Korn, Limp Bizkit, Gojira and Hellyeah seem the most likely out of this bunch. We're not sure Soundwave want to flirt too heavily with hair metal nostalgia.

SONISPHERE

Soundwave suitable: Amon Amarth, Bring Me The Horizon, Children Of Bodom, Dagoba, Dragon Force, Epica, Ghost, Headcharger, Iron Maiden, Korn, Limp Bizkit, Marillion, Megadeth, Sabaton, Slayer, Stone Sour

Possible: Amon Amarth, Children Of Bodom, Dagoba, Epica, Headcharger, Iron Maiden, Korn, Limp Bizkit, Marillion, Megadeth and Sabaton are possible, though some are more likely than others.

ROCK AM RING

Soundwave suitable: Almost the whole line up.

Possible: Again, too many to name them all – our picks include Green Day, Papa Roach, Asking Alexandria, Hacktivist, Bad Religion, Five Finger Death Punch, Coheed And Cambria, Escape The Fate and Newsted

HELLFEST

Soundwave suitable: Starting to regret even making this a category as there are a hundred bands from this bill who'd rule at Soundwave.

Possible: If we were picking another ten, we'd go with At the Gates, Down, Napalm Death, Negative Approach, Neurosis, Pig Destroyer, Saxon, Six Feet Under, Skindred and Testament.

WACKEN OPEN AIR

Soundwave suitable: Just Google the line-up. The whole thing would fit pretty nicely.

Possible: Plenty of acts. If we had to pick ten, we'd say these ones: Agnostic Front, Alestorm, As I Lay Dying, Danzig, DevilDriver, Manowar, Soilwork, Trivium, Ugly Kid Joe and Whitechapel

READING

Soundwave suitable: Heaps! Green Day, System Of A Down, Deftones, Frank Turner, Bring Me The Horizon, New Found Glory, Skindred, While She Sleeps, The Blackout, Biffy Clyro, Nine Inch Nails, Fall Out Boy, We Are The In Crowd, Bury Tomorrow, Deaf Havana, Alkaline Trio, RX Bandits, Cerebral Ballzy, The Creepshow, Tomahawk, Sick Of It All, The Bronx, Off With Their Heads, Chuck Ragan, Enter Shikari , Funeral For A Friend, Gallows, Filter, Crossfaith, Hacktivist and a stack of smaller bands.

Possible: There's good cases for Green Day, Deftones and Nine Inch Nails being included, The Bronx will come back to Australia any time and have done a few Soundwaves before, while we reckon Filter are a dark horse given their recent crowdfunding project.

DOWNLOAD

Soundwave suitable: Yeah, all of them pretty much.

Possible: Mainly acts we have already mentioned, so let's chuck in Black Stone Cherry, HIM, Motionless in White, Mastodon, Jimmy Eat World and Lit.

ROSKILDE

Soundwave suitable: Honestly we don't know a lot of the bands on the Roskilde line up, but Metallica, Queens Of The Stone Age, Slipknot, Volbeat, Airbourne, Hatebreed, Kreator, Kvelertak, Suicidal Tendencies, Turbonegro, Devin Townsend Project, Ensiferum, Goatwhore and Iceage would fit the bill pretty well.

Possible: We wouldn't be surprised to see QOTSA on the line up, Airbourne would be an interesting Aussie addition, while Turbonegro and Iceage would get a few of the indie kids in.

VOODOO FEST

Soundwave suitable: Pearl Jam, Nine Inch Nails, Paramore, The Gaslight Anthem, How To Destroy Angels, Alkaline Trio, Desaparecidos, New Found Glory

Possible: Not many! Nine Inch Nails, The Gaslight Anthem and Alkaline Trio is about it!

Of course, we don't know shit until tomorrow afternoon at 1.45pm. But it's fun to guess.
