Brisbane singer-songwriter Francesca de Valence takes a “high-speed joyride” with her new single, Red Cat.

Premiered today via The Music, the upbeat acoustic track is driven by guitar and de Valence’s unique vocals.

Red Cat was written after an experimental voyage to Paris.

“It was best to not leave your apartment on Saturdays as the 'gilets jaunes' (yellow vests) were out in full force all day and night,” she said.

“So I spent Saturdays indoors. One Sunday morning I had a photoshoot with acclaimed Parisian artist, Christophe Berjot. We parked next to a completely burnt out body of a smart Car. Someone had burnt it the day before in the riots.”

On the song’s accompanying clip, de Valence told The Music:

“I know I wanted something visual to accompany the release - a video that would encapsulate the joy (and sheer class, if I do say so myself) of driving along the boulevards of Paris in such a beautiful classic car.

“I intuitively felt like a live video would fail to capture that, even in Paris. So I had myself illustrated and animated by local artists Tom Ward and Cameron Pyke. For me, this video and the recording has all the joy of that morning in Paris.”

Red Cat will get a hometown launch at Junk Bar on May 2; check out theGuide for all the details.
