From Children's Music To String Quartets

When your career has been as wide and varied as Lior, throwing a string quartet into the mix is nothing.

Lior Attar has been busy. In the twelve years since his breakthrough debut album Autumn Flow was released to a string of ARIA nominations and acclaim, he's delved into everything from musicals, extensive touring, collaborations and even children's music, writing the closing theme for the ABC's Giggle and Hoot program.

The Queensland Music Festival and Noosa Alive! see him throw one more thing into the mix, playing alongside a string quartet.

The first of the two shows is set to take place at The Old Museum in Brisbane, a spectacular building that's been standing for over 110 years.

"I've played there a couple of times before but it's been a little while and it's really beautiful," Attar explains. "I've never done a show there with a string quartet so I'm looking forward to playing in that format."

"I'm going to be doing a collection of songs from across the catalogue and a couple of new songs. A couple of covers as well, mixing it up," he says.

"What I really love about this format is it's a really nice mix of intimacy, as well a more harmonic kind of richness. It still gives you that fluidity of doing an intimate solo show where it's like you're just in a lounge room, but it also gives that richness that strings can give.

"It's a really nice balancing point between those two things."

In the lead-up to the performances, Queensland Music Artistic Director Katie Noonan said that "Lior's lilting melodies and gorgeous voice will soar in the Old Museum's heritage-listed performance space for one of the most intimate nights of this year's festival."

When asked if he'll try roping in the george frontwoman for a duet during his performance after her kind comments, Attar laughs at the suggestion. "If she's around, for sure, why not?" he asks. "Why wouldn't you?"
