It's not too often you hear of lyrics being influenced by science, but some of Dear Plastic's very much were.

Album title? The Thieves Are Babes

Where did the title of your new album come from? It’s taken from a line in the first song. It matches the album’s running themes of corruption versus innocence.

How many releases do you have now? We’ve released three singles, plus the album. That probably makes around four, but really it feels like one big mama.

How long did it take to write/record? We started writing about three years ago! Then took many long breaks between tracking, mixing and so on. Some of the lyrics are many years older still.

Was anything in particular inspiring you during the making? I was studying science while writing, and that influenced the lyrics hugely. I saw so many matches between human experiences and biological or chemical processes that seemed analogous somehow. Which makes sense, I think.

What’s your favourite song on it? Danny and I like Everything’s Coming Up Roses. Josh’s favourite is Bell Jar. Cory’s is Reaper. Nathan’s is Little Seeds.

Will you do anything differently next time? More abstraction. More soundtrack. More dark. More relentlessness. Better Cory.

When and where is your launch/next gig? Our album launch is 11 Oct! Finally! At The Gasometer Hotel. You should come. We’ll be there.
