Fledgling Brisbane indie-rockers Video Avenue have released their very first single, Homewrecker, and theMusic.com.au is stoked to be giving you the premiere taste of the band's upbeat, jangly jam today.
Comprised of singer-songwriter James Walmsley, guitarist Jacob Dunn, bassist Liam Beazley and drummer Nat Patterson — who the attentive among you will recognise as the skinsman for local heavy-hitters Bayharbour — Video Avenue emerge as a remarkably well-developed beast, the song's infectious energy and tight arrangement belying its somewhat embittered origins.
Based on a personal experience from Walmsley's past, "Homewrecker is a song about going out and seeing someone who is a 'homewrecker'; someone who prides themselves on ruining relationships," the vocalist said in a statement.
"You know the homewrecker is sick of their lifestyle and wants to settle down, but you don't want that person now; regardless of how they've changed."

Driven by Walmsley's warm vocals, the song tears ahead with an urgent yet consistent drum beat and catchy, unobtrusive instrumentation, which the band explain are easy on complexity by design.
"The guitar and bass is written with the focus on the verse; they're really light in technicality, and everything gravitates around the equilibrium of the track: the chorus," Dunn explained. "The vocals are the drive for of this one."
If you like what you hear, you'll be able to catch Video Avenue in action before the week's out: they'll be launching Homewrecker at Ric's Bar this Saturday, 1 July, with their mates in Melbourne outfit Birdhouse.
