PREMIERE: Boats - Release

13 April 2015 | 3:01 pm | Staff Writer

Melbourne-bred musician Blake Peterson, aka Boats, has spent the past three or so years honing his chops as a DJ among the city's vibrant house electronic scene. However, his impending debut EP, Release, marks a tangible evolutionary transition for the composer, and theMusic.com.au is proud to be premiering the work ahead of its official drop this Friday, 17 April.

Moving past the short Intro to the lush, laid-back, ethereal Spider's SoulRelease instantly reveals Peterson as a man of a multitude of talents and tastes, not at all limited by his time in the house scene, offering up layered, thoughtful cut upon layered, thoughtful cut, from keenly received single Shallows and the crawling, unstoppable crescendo of the whistle-dappled Rabbits to the eclectically percussive That's The Way and the acoustic infusion of closer Hold The Knife.

Throughout, Peterson's vocals warmly envelop the shifting aural sands, all of which add up to a truly enticing proposition from a supremely talented dude. You'll kick yourself if you let this one pass you by.

If you want to see how the man manages to recreate Release in the flesh, he'll be performing at a launch show on Friday, 1 May, at the Shebeen Bandroom. See theGuide or check The Music App for more information.
