Album Review: Xylouris White - Goats

Legendary Cretan folk artist George Xylouris and Dirty Three skinsman Jim White join forces on an album whose free-flowing style and mystique are at once arresting and ambiguous.

Fandomas and Old School Sousta feel, for want of a better phrase, old school – there’s something primordial about the poetic rhythms the duo slips into, the music’s roots both ancient and alien. Songs ebb and flow, shining apocryphal light on each player’s inimitable strengths. The Bells 2 sees White’s arrhythmic drumming take flight, whilst Suburb takes Xylouris’ lute to higher realms. Brilliant.
